During the World Team Championships in Portugal, the idea was born to organise the World Individual Championships in Cameroon.
Of course, as the host country is responsible for financing this most prestigious of draughts competitions, the decision could not be taken without the agreement of the government. Our Vice-President in charge of International Relations, Richard Przewozniak, has just travelled to Cameroon to meet representatives of the Cameroon federation and, above all, the Minister of Sport and Physical Education of the Republic of Cameroon, His Excellency Mr Narcisse Mouelle Kombi.
An agreement in principle was given by the Minister, but given the financial effort required of Cameroon, the agreement will only be signed once the green light has been given at the highest level of government.
Our project to organise the competition for the first time in draughts history in Cameroon is also supported by the President of the Cameroon Olympic and Sports Committee, Mr Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, whom we met on his premises. This short stay also gave us the opportunity to visit the Palais des Sports, where the competition could take place, to meet the Cameroon players in their clubs and the many media who followed the visit very closely kept the public regularly informed about the purpose of the visit.
