Update on World Championship Match

21 July 02 The AGM of the EDA voted as follows.

1. No longer to
recognise King as World Champion.
2. Not to recognise Moiseyev as World
Champion.
3. To organise a Unification Match between King and Moiseyev, the
contract to be signed by 31 Dec 02, the match to be played by 31 Mar 03.

7 Dec 02 At the Executive Committee meeting of the EDA the final
form of the contract was agreed, and the match referee, John Reade, was
appointed. A bid from David Prophet Clarke of Marketing Innovations (Barbados)
to play the match on an aeroplane travelling between various Caribbean islands
was considered. It was voted to give David until 28 Feb 03 to come up with
details.

31 Dec 02 Both players signed the contract.

That
is the position at the moment. As soon as the 28 February deadline is passed we
shall choose where to play the match. Other possible venues are the Checker Hall
of Fame, courtesy of Charles Walker, and Manchester University, England, where
John Reade works.

The ACF have said they will recognise the winner of
this match as World Champion. Their position is that Moiseyev is World Champion,
and King is a bone fide challenger, having won the British Open 2002.

The Irish associations have said they will recognise the winner of this
match as World Champion. Their position is that King is World Champion and
Moiseyev is a bone fide challenger having come second in the British Open 2002.
